Notes from the floor

Short, practical writing from the Scaledesk team — vendor vetting, seat economics, hiring, QA and what actually goes wrong when you move support offshore. Published as we go.

Field notes on outsourcing, vendor vetting and offshore support operations.

What we write about

Four recurring threads, all drawn from programs we are currently running or vetting.

Vendor vetting

What to ask on a floor walk, which certifications actually matter, how to read an attrition number, and the reference questions that get you an honest answer.

Seat economics

How the $7–$12 per agent hour band is built up, what sits inside a managed seat rate, and where hidden costs — tooling, supervision, backfill — usually appear.

Ramp and QA

Training timelines, pilot scorecards, calibration sessions, and the first-90-days metrics that predict whether a program will hold up.

Where AI helps

Which queues agentic AI genuinely absorbs, which ones it quietly damages, and how to split volume between AI and human agents without burning CSAT.

Who this is for

Almost everything here is written for operations, support and founder-level readers at US small and mid-size businesses evaluating outsourced customer service for the first time — typically somewhere between 10 and 50 seats of work. If you have already run offshore programs, skip the primers and go straight to the vetting and QA posts.

We do not publish vendor press releases, and we do not recommend a floor we have not walked. When a post cites a cost band or a ramp timeline, it comes from programs in our own network. When the honest answer is that outsourcing is the wrong move for your volume, the post says that too.
